The Mexican national team will begin another era with a new coach at the helm, with everything indicating that it will be Diego Cocca. Given this, some players are beginning to get excited about being in the first squad for the March FIFA date, and one of them, Cruz Azul’s Erik Lira, has said that he “is going to kill himself on the pitch” in an attempt to get selected.

Erik Lira targets Mexico call-up

In an interview with TUDN, Lira acknowledged that he feels motivated right now and will seek to be in the first call-up to the Mexican national team after the World Cup late last year.

“I feel very pleased and very happy, I am very motivated and I am aiming for the FIFA date which is in March. I’m preparing myself in all aspects, but first I’m thinking about Cruz Azul and I have to be very good here so that the individual awards come later.

“You have to raise your hand right now to be there in the process. It is a long and strong process to open up an opportunity and then show what we are made of. I am ready and prepared, I am going to kill myself on the field and I am going to give my best, not only for the team, but for everything that the national team entails,” Lira states.

Erik Lira has become an important of Cruz Azul and up to now he is the undisputed starter in Raúl Gutiérrez’s set-up.

Mexico will face Suriname and Jamaica at the end of March in the final days of the Nations League, a tournament in which El Tri sits second in the group below the Reggae Boyz.
