The Manchester derby this weekend could be special for Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, who have proved to be one of the most lethal duos in the Premier League thanks to the Belgian’s assists and the Norwegian’s ability to score.

The game at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester United lends itself as the perfect opportunity for Haaland to extend his scoring run against United - an opponent that is one of his two favourite rivals in the Premier League - with five previous goals.

Erik Ten Hag’s side are struggling to find their way and are coming off the back of a painful defeat against Fulham, as well as a hard-fought FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest.

Haaland is on course to break an unusual record that still belongs to Sergio Agüero. And it is one in which De Bruyne is also involved.

Agüero’s record that haunts Haaland

The record still held by Agüero is that the Argentinian is so far the player to whom De Bruyne has provided the most assists in his career. The former City man scored 23 goals from De Bruyne assists, according to data shared by One Football.

However, Haaland is already on the prowl, as since De Bruyne’s return, the two have had a unique connection and a sign of it came in the previous match where Haaland scored five goals and De Bruyne assisted on four of those five against Luton.

In total, Haaland has 18 goals assisted by De Bruyne, putting him just five behind Kun’s record, which is followed by the 22 and 20 goals scored by Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling during their time at the Manchester outfit.
