The first goal of the new Premier League season has been scored by none other than Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian goalscoring machine broke the deadlock against Burnley at Turf Moor after just four minutes when he scored with a low left-footed strike from close range after Rodri headed across the box.

De Bruyne subbed off

With 24 minutes on the clock, City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne was taken off with what appeared to be another knock. He was subsequently replaced by new signing Mateo Kovacic.

Haaland brace

Shortly before the break, the unplayable Haaland grabbed his second of the night. World Cup winner Julián Álvarez laid it off to the City No 9, who bent an effort in off the underside of the bar after 36 minutes.

How many goals did Haaland score in 2022-23?

Haaland ended the 2022-23 Premier League campaign with 36 goals: a Premier League record in a single season by a player.

Rodri adds a third

In the second half, City added a third through Rodri in the 75th minute and Pep Guardiola’s side ran out 3-0 winners to pick up their first three points of the new season.
