Update:

Manchester City’s shaky run of form continued on Tuesday, suffering a shock defeat to Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League.

City began the penultimate round of league phase fixtures in fourth place and were expected to tighten their grip on an automatic qualification place. But it was not to be, falling to a shock 3-1 defeat against the Norwegian side.

Compounding the misery for City, midfielder Rodri picked up a red card in the game and will now miss next week’s crucial final round. Speaking after the game, City boss Pep Guardiola sounded exasperated.

“Today was an incredible opportunity for us,” Guardiola explained. “But everything is going wrong, going against us in many details. That’s a fact and we have to try to change it. The players are there and we tried.”

“I don’t have any doubt that in this competition, nothing is for granted, that’s for sure. United were better than us [last Saturday]. Today it was momentum that punished us.”

What next for Manchester City?

City striker Erling Haaland described Tuesday’s performance as “shocking” and took the blame for City’s struggles in front of goal.

“I don’t have the answers. I take full responsibility of not being able to score the goals I should do,” Haaland said after the game. “I just apologize to everyone; every single Man City supporter and every single supporter that traveled today, because in the end it’s embarrassing.

City came into Tuesday’s game looking to bounce back from last Saturday’s 2-0 loss to rivals Manchester United. Guardiola’s side are now win-less in their last four Premier League games and have lost ground to Arsenal in the title race.

Next up for City is a Premier meeting meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers, who have started to show some fight in the battle against relegation. Following that, City’s next three fixtures will see them take on Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Liverpool.

If City are to keep the pressure up on Arsenal and hunt for European honors, Guardiola is well aware that his team will need to show considerable improvement between now and the end of the season.
