Fan dies after fall at Mexico City Stadium during reopening event
A fan died at the former Azteca Stadium before its reopening; authorities are investigating how the incident happened.

A tragic incident unfolded yesterday afternoon, when a fan—reportedly under the influence of alcohol—lost his life at the Estadio Ciudad de México (formerly Estadio Azteca) during its reopening ceremony ahead of Mexico’s friendly against Portugal.
How the incident happened
According to Mexico City’s Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), the accident occurred in the stadium’s luxury box area. The fan attempted to climb down from the second level to the first by jumping along the exterior side of the structure. The maneuver went wrong, causing him to fall all the way to the ground level.
Medical personnel on site responded immediately and provided emergency care. Despite their efforts, officials confirmed that the man died at the scene, leaving many attendees shocked and distressed.
