The 2022 FIFA Club World Cup tournament gets underway in Morocco on 1 February and will feature seven teams with games set to be played in both Tangiers and Rabat.

The competition runs from 1 to 11 February and will feature the respective winners from each confederations top competition involved. The seven teams include pre-tournament favourites, Champions League winners Real Madrid and Flamengo (Copa Libertadores winners). The other five participating sides are: Auckland City (Oceania), Al Hilal (AFC) Seattle Sounders (CONCACAF), Wydad Casablanca (CAF) and Egypt’s Al Ahly as guests given that Wydad are the ‘host nation’ and also CAF Champions League winners.

FIFA confirmed ticket details for the tournament late last week and created a ticket portal where fans could secure tickets. Match tickets were split into three categories, starting at just $5 for the tournament’s first three matches, including Wydad v. Al Hilal on 4 February. Prices start at $10 for the semi-finals, when Real Madrid and Flamengo enter the competition, and $20 for the final in Rabat.

Frustrated fans

However thousands of frustrated fans claim that they spent hours waiting in a virtual queue unable to access the portal with the platform subsequently then offering tickets for just three games: Match 1 (Tangiers) Auckland City-Al Ahly, match 2 (Tangiers) Seattle-Winners of match 1 and the first semi-final game involving Flamengo also set to be held in Tangiers.

According to local online news outlet Hespress, a Moroccan FA source maintains that FIFA may open another ticket window for the Rabat games to frustrate second hand ticket outlets with games involving Casablanca giants Wydad now available for over 15 times the original price.

A trial effort by AS USA this morning to access the ticket portal saw us in a virtual queue behind over 1.2 million other applicants!
