After days of silence, the Barcelona board, who have tried to resolve the start of the Enríquez Negreira case with a brief institutional statement and a brief statement from president Joan Laporta, have taken a new step.

Laporta has spoken of payment for “reports on players and referees”, but the club once again tiptoed around the issue at Sunday’s league game between Barcelona and Cádiz, although there is one new development.

Rafael Yuste, the club’s vice-president, announced on Barça TV that, through the compliance department, a law firm has been hired to start an investigation and he even went so far as to promise “transparency”.

“I have to tell the members, first of all, to be very calm. Through the compliance department, the matter will be made as transparent as possible. The club has commissioned a law firm to handle, study and clarify all the responsibilities that may arise from this affair. The club will have the transparency that the club needs to save its honour because there is too much noise and it doesn’t suit anyone,” Yuste explained to Barça TV.
