The 21-year-old Argentine midfielder will sign with Inter Miami, after impressing in the South American Under 23 Pre-Olympic.
After several twists and turns, Federico Redondo is finally on his way to the United States to begin a new stage in his career with Inter Miami in Major League Soccer. The Argentine midfielder said goodbye with an emotional post on his personal Instagram account in which he shared videos and images of his most special moments with Argentinos Juniors - the club he joined as a 10-year-old.
Federico Redondo’s football family
Federico, who is the son of former Real Madrid star Fernando Redondo - one of the best midfielders of the 90s, left Ezeiza at 9:30 p.m. (local time) heading to Miami International Airport where he is expected to land after 4 a.m. Argentine newspaper Olé reports that Inter Miami “will pay Argentinos Juniors a fee of around 7,500,000 dollars” for his transfer with the South American club adding a clause that will guarantee them a 15% cut in the event of any future sale.
The young Argentinean joins Messi, Suarez and Company to reinforce the midfield, an area where Tata Martino has lost several squad members. Last week, Brazilian midfielder Gregore signed for Botafogo while Benjamin Cremaschi remains sidelined after undergoing surgery on a hernia and is expected to be out for a few more weeks.
Despite his age (he turned 21 on 18 January), Redondo has already built up a lot of experience playing in the first division. He made his senior debut with the La Paternal-based team in July 2022 coming on as a late sub in the agonizing 2-1 victory over Tigre - the first of 13 top flight appearances he made that season, six of them in the starting XI.
Federico was part of the Argentina squad that competed in last year’s Under-20 World Cup, playing in all of the team’s games up until their elimination in the Round of 16. He was also part of Javier Mascherano’s U23 squad that secured a place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the pre-Olympic competition held in Venezuela.
Redondo has all the qualities needed to be an instant hit with Inter Miami fans. He inherited the ability to distribute the ball from his famous father and the intelligence to play a simple nut highly effective style of football. A new arrival who promises to connect to perfection with Messi and the rest of Miami’s frontline.
