After spending four years at Club América, Federico Viñas will join the Club León for what promises to be a busy few months with the start of the Apertura 2023 tournament, the Leagues Cup and their debut in the Club World Cup as CONCACAF Champions League winners. Sources consulted by AS México confirmed that the transfer has been completed with the player signing a four-year contract.

Although the striker has already been officially presented by Club León, it was only this Friday that he managed to finalize the last details that tied him to Club América. Today he will visit the Coapa facilities to say goodbye to his former team mates and coaching staff, before traveling to Toluca to join up with his new team for the pre-season.

Viñas was called up by Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa for two friendly matches, against Nicaragua and Cuba, this month. However, the player was forced to quit the national team camp after picking up an injury. “Federico Viñas... suffered an sprain in one of the last training sessions and will not be able to be part of the match against Cuba...” the Uruguayan Football Federation said in a statement.

Now over his injury, the 24-year-old’s goal is to hit peak performance levels to begin his new adventure at León under the direction of Argentine coach Nicolás Larcamón. Viñas will seek to play a crucial role in the team’s attack and become the goal scorer that La Fiera needs so badly.

During his time at América, the Uruguayan striker scored 24 goals in 122 games.
