Fernando Beltrán was eager to lighten up the atmosphere ahead of Saturday’s national classic against América at the Azteca stadium.

After his team mate Cristian Calderón and the Águilas coach, Fernando Ortiz, got involved in a debate over which team is the greatest in Mexico, El Nene decided to air his thoughts. The Guadalajara midfielder assured that his team, unlike the Coapa club, does not need foreign players to stand out. I identify with Chivas, I’m at the biggest club in Mexico, I feel like I represent Mexicans, we want to show what Mexicans can do. We don’t need foreigners to be a big club,” he said.

The 1-4 defeat to Tigres prior to tonight’s Super Clásico was a tough lesson for Chivas, as Beltrán confessed.

“As a team we took it very calmly, because of the situation we are in and because we could talk about it as a team. It was the best game we’ve played so far in the tournament,” he said.

To end, Fernando thanked the fans for their support - fans who stayed by the team even after the poor start to the tournament. “We know how much the fans demand of us - even before the tournament started they were letting us know what the club represents. We appreciate their support, many people didn’t stop believing in the team”, he concluded.
