Fernando Hierro accepts new role at Chivas de Guadalajara

The former Spanish international was appointed as Chivas Sporting Director following Ricardo Peláez exit after another disappointing tournament.

Fernando Hierro has accepted the offer from Chivas de Guadalajara to become the Sporting Director following Ricardo Peláez’s exit from the club after another disappointing tournament. The Liga MX side used their social media to confirm the signing of the former Spanish international manager with a caption that read: “Welcome to the biggest club in Mexico.”

Fernando Hierro’s message to Chivas

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with you. This is a beautiful challenge that I have ahead of me. Big hug to everyone,” said Fernando Hierro in the video that Chivas posted on all of their social media accounts. The former Real Madrid legend arrived in Guadalajara on Monday to start preparing the team ahead of the start of the 2023 Clausura tournament.

Hierro has a difficult task ahead of him and a lot of work to do before the start of pre-season. His first move in his new role is to appoint a new manager, and it has been rumored that José Bordalás is the main candidate on Hierro’s list to take over the job. Bordalás is an experienced manager that has been in charge of Alcorcón, Deportivo Alavés, Elche, Getafe, and Valencia.

If Bordalás accepts the offer from Chivas, it will be the first time he manages a team outside of Spain since his beginnings in 1993. The Spanish strategist, alongside Fernando Hierro, will have a difficult task of winning the Liga MX title with Chivas, something the team hasn’t been able to do since 2015 when Matías Almeyda was the manager.
