The battle to be the best technical director in this year’s Liga MX came to an end just one day before the end of the 2022 Apertura regular phase, Fernando Ortiz tops this list.

The América coach has delivered the best figures in 2022, his team has gained 69% of the possible points after 29 Liga MX games. Just below is Pachuca DT Guillermo Almada, with 68% of of the possible points achieved, alongside Diego Cocca, who recently left two-time champions Atlas, due to a run of poor results. Both oversaw more games -a total of 39 in the Liga MX.

In third place is Víctor Manuel Vucetich, with Monterrey, whose team gained 64% of the available points. These are the only coaches whose teams have played more than 16 games this year in Liga MX and have tallied 60% of the points in play or more.

Miguel Herrera, with Tigres, and Eduardo Fentanes, from Santos, have won 59% and Chivas boss Ricardo Cadena has 55% in 23 Liga MX games. Only these six coaches can boast over 50% of the possible points, out of the 21 who have been in charge of 16 games or more during 2022.

Juan Reynoso follows in seventh place with 48% of points obtained with Cruz Azul, in 20 games played. In eighth place appears Puebla’s Nicolás Larcamón whose side drew 17 of their games in 2022, amassing 46% of the total points.

Jaime Lozano, with Necaxa, is in ninth place with 44% and tied in tenth place are Ignacio Ambriz, with Toluca, and Liga MX newcomer León’s Renato Paiva both on 43%.

A special mention goes to Andrés Lillini, Pumas coach, who has had a year to forget. He only comes ahead of coaches who have already been fired, with the exception of former player Mauro Gerk, who has barely been in the Querétaro job for one tournament; Ricardo Valiño, who joined Tijuana at the start of the Apertura 2022, and Hernán Cristante, ex-Querétaro coach who is currently with FC Juárez.
