After the defeat to Chivas, Ortiz announced that he would be stepping down.
Ciudad de México
After Club América’s shock 3-1 defeat to Chivas on Sunday, head coach Fernando Ortiz decided to step down from his role at the club.
In the press conference after the match at the Azteca Stadium, the Argentine tactician congratulated Chivas and announced his decision to move on.
“First of all, congratulations to Chivas. We have to recognise that today’s rival played better than us, so congratulations to them on reaching the final. Secondly, for me and my coaching staff, our stint with the club has come to an end,” said Ortiz.
Eagles suffer again
The Eagles have been knocked out in the semi-finals for the third consecutive time, with Pachuca and Toluca previously getting the better of them.
