The FIFA Club World Cup (2022) tournament gets underway in Morocco on 1 February and will feature seven teams with games set to be played in the cities of Tangiers and Rabat.

The competition runs from 1 to 11 February and will feature the winners from each of the six global confederations’ top competitions: UEFA Champions League, CAF Champions League, AFC Champions League, CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores, OFC Champions League and CONCACAF Champions League.

President of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino FADEL SENNAGetty

The seven teams include pre-tournament favourites, Champions League winners Real Madrid and Flamengo (Copa Libertadores winners). The other five participating sides are: Auckland City (Oceania), Al Hilal (AFC), Seattle Sounders (CONCACAF), Wydad Casablanca (CAF) and Egypt’s Al Ahly.

FIFA confirmed the presence of Egypt’s Al-Ahly to fill the one remaining vacancy, given that the CAF Champions League winners, Wydad Casablanca represent the host country (the rules prevent two teams from the same country playing the tournament).

Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal will repeat as Asia’s representative due to their status as champions of the 2021 CAF Champions League. The 2022 edition of the competition is still in progress (Al Hilal are in the round of 16) and will not be resolved until May.
