Finally! The wait is over for Chicharito

Despite the FIFA international break, Chivas Guadalajara stayed active, squaring off against Club América in a friendly match held in the United States. In that clash, Javier “Chicharito” Hernández broke the deadlock early, ending his personal scoring drought against the Coapa side.

Just two minutes into the match, América attempted to build out from the back, but Chivas’ high press disrupted their rhythm. Under pressure, Los Azulcremas’ defense coughed up possession near the box, and Chicharito pounced. Positioned just outside the six-yard area, the veteran striker rose up and powered home a header to give Los Rojiblancos a 1-0 lead.

After finding the back of the net, Mexico’s all-time leading scorer sprinted toward the corner flag, where he was quickly congratulated by teammates Richard Ledezma and Daniel Aguirre.

Victor Dávila later equalized for América - firing a second-half shot into the corner from outside the box - as the Clásico Nacional ended 1-1 in Glendale, Arizona.

When had Chicharito last scored for Chivas?

Remarkably, Hernández’s opener was his first ever goal against América. During his initial stint with Chivas, he never managed to score against their archrivals.

The goal also marked his first for Guadalajara in nearly eight months. The 37-year-old had not found the net for El Rebaño Sagrado since scoring against Atletico San Luis in late February, in week 9 of the Clausura 2025.
