Update:

It’s official: James Rodríguez is leaving Club León. The Mexican club’s president Jesús Martínez confirmed that the 34-year-old Colombian midfielder played his final match for “La Fiera” last weekend and will become a free agent when his contract expires in December.

With just six months until the 2026 World Cup kicks off in the U.S., speculation is swirling about where James will land next. According to Caracol Radio’s VBar program, Orlando City SC is emerging as a strong contender, given the midfielder’s interest in playing in the host country of the upcoming tournament.

But Orlando isn’t the only MLS team in the mix. LA Galaxy, Toronto FC, and New York City FC are also reportedly keeping tabs on the Colombian star. Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur shared on X (formerly Twitter) that clubs in Mexico and Brazil — including Copa Libertadores finalist Flamengo — are also monitoring his situation closely.

James Rodríguez will leave Club León when his contract ends in December. MLS clubs like LA Galaxy, Orlando City, and Toronto FC are interested. América, Tigres, NYCFC, and Flamengo are also watching,” Konur posted.

For now, James is focused on international duty, preparing for Colombia’s upcoming friendlies against New Zealand and Australia. What’s certain is that he won’t be returning to León in 2026.

Club president Jesús Martínez spoke candidly about the departure: “I spoke with James, and we were both honest. We agreed to part ways on the best terms. I’m grateful he chose to wear León’s jersey during a tough time, and he’s grateful we reached out. I wish him all the success in the world — he’s a phenomenal player, a true star, and I hope he thrives wherever he goes.”

Stay tuned — with the World Cup approaching and MLS expanding its global footprint, James Rodríguez’s next move could be a game-changer.
