AS Monaco lost at home to OGC Nice on Friday night with a 91st-minute winner from Jérémie Boga. New Monaco striker Folarin Balogun missed penalties in both halves of the Ligue 1 match as his side slipped to their first defeat of the campaign.

Matchday 6 in the French top flight pitted the two leaders against each other and the USA international had the opportunity to put Monaco ahead on two occasions, but uncharacteristically missed both. With the win, Nice have taken top spot with their late strike ahead of the remaining fixtures this weekend.

A night to forget for Balogun

In the 12th minute, Balogun took the responsibility of taking the penalty, shooting low but Philipp Köhn in the Nice goal denied him.

Ten minutes into the second half, in the 55th minute, Balogun again had the chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot, but, once again, he missed it - almost a carbon copy of his first failed effort.

The former Arsenal player has scored one goal in the three games he has played for Monaco. Ricardo Pepi, who is playing for Dutch side PSV, is competing for the No 9 position in Gregg Berhalter’s team and will keep Balogun on his toes over the coming months.
