Former Chelsea player suggests Cole Palmer could be most expensive transfer in history
Chelsea are currently in a race for a Champions League spot, and should they fail to qualify it could mean losing Cole Palmer, according to Scott Sinclair.

Cole Palmer is set for an awfully eventful summer. He will be traveling to North America with Thomas Tuchel’s England side, hoping to bring the World Cup "back home" after 60 years. He could also be on the move out of Stamford Bridge, and could become the most expensive transfer ever according to one former Chelsea player.
Man U making move for Palmer?
Chelsea are hesitant to let one of the top domestic talents slip away this summer, but a record price tag could be what it take to lure him out of London. The Blues are in a race for a Champions League spot, and if they fail to secure that for next season Palmer could be tempted to force his way out of Chelsea to another Premier League rival, according to Scott Sinclair. “If Chelsea don’t make the Champions League spot, then that’s up to him to decide. But Chelsea is a massive club and I don’t think any player would want to leave,” Sinclair told OLBG.com.

Manchester United are said to be the most fond of Palmer, but former Chelsea winger has warned the Red Devils that they will have to pay a pretty penny for the midfielder should they try and lure him to Old Trafford. “His links to Man Utd? I’m not sure. From the outside, I think he seems happy enough and is enjoying his football. We just need to get that top, top level form back. I don’t think he’d be looking elsewhere,” said Sinclair
Like Cole Palmer, Sinclair played for both Chelsea and Manchester City, and he believes that the English international is still one of the top players in the world despite a season that has been hampered by injury. A nagging groin injury and a broken toe have kept Palmer from his top form, but that is unlikely to lower what the price tag that Chelsea would potentially put on their star.
Is Palmer worth that much?
“He’s a top player, probably one of the best in the Premier League. I’m sure that sort of price tag, maybe £200 million, will come along. He’s contracted and signed a long deal, so only time will tell,” said Sinclair. That would put Palmer on right around the same number as the most expensive transfer ever, when Neymar moved from Barcelona to PSG in the summer of 2017. After that came Kylian Mbappe’s $210 million transfer from Monaco to PSG that same year.
Sinclair spent five season on the books with Chelsea but didn’t play much with the Blues. He was loaned out six times, before moving to Swansea City and then landing at Manchester City.

Chelsea paid £40million for Palmer back in 2023 and since then has become one of the most feared players in the Premier League. The 23 year old has made 122 appearances with the Blues, scoring 53 goals and 32 assists, including 42 goal contributions in his first season at Stamford Bridge.
With just seven matches left in the Premier League season, Chelsea are currently sixth and on the outside of the Champions League race looking in. They are one point behind Liverpool in fifth with 49 points, and six behind Aston Villa in the fourth spot with 54 points.
