Former Chivas keeper Sánchez: “Signing Chicharito is not the solution”
Regarded as one of best keepers in Mexican football history, the ex Chivas keeper Oswaldo Sanchez offered his view on Chicharito signing.
Considered by many as the best goalkeeper in the history of Mexican football, Oswaldo Sánchez spoke to ESPN and offered his frank views on the imminent return at the Estadio Akron for Javier ‘Chicharito Hernandez’.
The 35-year-old striker severed his ties with LA Galaxy after a torn ACL ended his time with the MLS club and the veteran player is now a free agent.
Sanchez, who played more than 270 games for Chivas affirmed that the ‘Sacred Flock’ will sign a solid player but one individual cannot paper over the cracks at the club.
“The solution for Chivas is far beyond just one player, football is a team game. América did not solve their problems or win the recent championship with just one player, it was a team effort. ‘Chicharito’ will be an important acquisition but not the absolute solution,” stated Sánchez as part of his ESPN interview.
Chivas start their Liga MX Clausura 2024 campaign this weekend as they host Santos Laguna at the Akron Stadium and with former No. 14 at Chivas last season, Ricardo Marín switching to the No. 19 shirt after the club revealed the squad numbers as the new campaign, it seems only a matter of time before Chicharito is confirmed as a new member of Fernando Gago’s squad.
