Manchester United and England center-back Harry Maguire has been handed a 15‑month suspended prison sentence by a Greek court - reduced from the original 21 months - over an incident on the island of Mykonos in August 2020.

The 32‑year‑old defender, who faced three charges - non-serious assault, resisting arrest, and attempted bribery - has been found guilty on all counts.

Maguire set to contest ruling again

Maguire has consistently maintained his innocence and is expected to file an appeal - just as he did after being found guilty in an initial trial in 2020. That legal challenge led his original suspended jail term to be overturned.

What happened on Mykonos in August 2020?

Maguire, then 27, was arrested along with two other British nationals, aged 28 and 29, following an alleged late‑night altercation in which he reportedly insulted and later struck a police officer. The United defender was transported from Mykonos to Syros to give a statement, during which he denied all accusations.

Greek police stated in an official report that one of Maguire’s group “attempted to offer money so that the process against them is not completed”.

The England international was vacationing on Mykonos with family and friends after United had been knocked out of the 2019/20 Europa League semifinals by Sevilla. The Red Devils have not commented on the matter.
