Former Real Madrid player James Rodríguez joins Brazilian outfit São Paulo

After leaving Greece, James Rodríguez has put pen to paper on a deal with Brazilian outfit São Paulo.

James Rodríguez has signed for Brazilian club São Paulo. On Saturday, journalist Vene Casagrande reported that the Colombian player signed his contract with the Brazilian team after several days of negotiations between his representatives and the club’s leaders.

“There is no turning back! James Rodríguez has already signed a contract with São Paulo,” wrote Casagrande on his Twitter account.

James will be presented to fans on Sunday, July 30, when the club host Bahía on matchday 17 of the Brasileirao. The presentation will be made before the start of the match at the Morumbi stadium. São Paulo are sixth in the league with 25 points, 15 behind leaders Botafogo.

The Colombian has not played an official match for more than three months, after he left Olympiacos. His last game was on April 9. During his time in Greece, he played 23 games, 18 as a starter, scoring five goals and providing assists.

World Cup plans

James is working on improving his form for the start of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. Colombia begin their World Cup journey in September against Venezuela in Barranquilla and Chile in Santiago.
