Former England international Frank Lampard has been sacked as Everton manager with the club sitting joint-bottom of the Premier League table, ahead of Southampton only on goal difference. The former Chelsea man took over at Goodison Park in January 2022 and guided the Toffees to safety last season but was unable to oversee any on-field improvement this term despite spending a reported £84 million on new signings.

After losing their opening two games of the campaign, Lampard had looked to have turned things around as Everton went on a seven-match unbeaten run in all competitions between mid-August and the start of October, which had them sitting in mid-table. However, they’ve since undergone a wretched run of just one victory in their last 14 competitive matches, the last four of which they’ve lost (three in the Premier League).

Owner Farhad Moshiri, who has come under fierce criticism for the way he has been running the club from supporters in recent times, had given his backing to Lampard as recently as a couple of weeks ago but has decided to pull the trigger after the Merseysiders suffered meek defeats to Southampton and West Ham United, two of their direct competitors at the foot of the table.

What was Frank Lampard’s record as Everton manager?

Lampard, whose contract was due to run until June 2024, took charge of 44 matches as Everton manager, winning 12, drawing eight and losing 24. This season, they have won only three of their 20 Premier League fixtures, the fewest in the division.
