Frenchman Letexier to oversee Madrid-City Champions League clash

The 34-year-old oversaw Madrid’s group stage game against Napoli at the end of November and is FIFA listed since 2017.

The French referee François Letexier has been appointed by UEFA to officiate the Real Madrid-Manchester City clash, the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals, which will be played next Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. (CET) 3pm (ET) at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in the heart of the Spanish capital.

The 34-year-old Letexier has been in charge of Ligue 1 games in his native France since 2016 and was in charge of the French Cup final in 2021 between PSG and Monaco.

He is both UEFA and FIFA listed with the 2023 UEFA Super Cup final between Manchester City and Sevilla in Piraeus (Greece) his highest profile match to date.

This season, the Bédée native refereed the Real Madrid-Naples match on November 29, in the group stage of the Champions League, which ended with a 4-2 home victory.

Tuesday’s game will be his fourth match in this competition in the current season and on the night, the official will be accompanied by compatriots Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni as assistants. The team will be complimented by Video Assistant Referee and Jérôme Brisard and Assistant Video Assistant Referee Willy Delajod.

UEFA also announced on Sunday that the other quarterfinal match on Tuesday, between Arsenal and Bayern Munich will be refereed by the Swede Glenn Nyberg who is set to be assisted by fellow Swedes, Mahbod Beigi and Andreas Söderqvist.
