From Atlético to Atlético: Liga MX starlet set for Spain

A new Mexican talent is heading to Europe. Atlético Madrid has set its sights on youth prospect Emiliano Muñoz and completed his signing. The young Mexican striker had been developing in the academy of Atlético San Luis, the Colchoneros’ affiliate club in Mexico. Although the Spanish side had been tracking him for some time, the deal only came together now.

Journalist Yeudiel Pacheco broke the news, adding that Muñoz trained with Atlético Madrid during trials back in 2024. However, the move wasn’t finalized until he turned 16 - the minimum age for an international transfer. One factor that helped streamline the process: Muñoz already holds a Spanish passport.

What are Muñoz’s San Luis stats?

In total, he played 47 matches and scored 25 goals for Atlético San Luis. He has also represented Mexico in youth international competitions, giving him early experience wearing El Tri’s colors on the global stage and teaching him how to handle high-pressure environments.

Despite being just 16, Muñoz earned a regular place with San Luis’ U-19 squad. Now, he’s been given the chance to take the next big step: joining one of the dominant clubs in Spanish soccer. The transfer fee remains unknown, as the player is not currently listed with a market value on Transfermarkt.
