Cruz Azul suffered more than they would like to in the playoff game against Club León over the weekend, but a solo goal from Rodrigo Rivero was enough for them to secure their spot in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Apertura tournament in Liga MX. The Machine will now face Monterrey in a two legged series that will start on 12 October at Estadio Azteca and conclude on Saturday at BBVA stadium.

Injury report for Cruz Azul

The team managed by Raúl Gutiérrez has not lost in their last five games since he took over the job late in the campaign and they are looking to continue with their winning streak in the play-offs. The Machine has confirmed that Ramiro Funes Mori, Rafael Guerrero and Alejandro Mayorga have been ruled out for tomorrow’s game because they are recovering from their respective injuries.

Guerrero suffered a serious ankle injury and he will most likely miss the rest of the play-offs because he is expected to recover in 3-4 weeks. Funes Mori is still dealing with a muscle injury that prevented him from playing against León over the weekend and he has yet to reach full fitness. Mayorga continues to recover from a facial fracture and he has been ruled out for the first leg, but could return for the second leg.

So Gutiérrez will have to adjust his defense for the first leg against Monterrey and try to maintain the clean sheet. Rayados are one of the top contenders to win the Liga MX title this season after finishing in second place behind Club América, so Cruz Azul will have a tough matchup against one of the most powerful offense.
