After spending the best part of a decade at Rayados, Rogelio Funes Mori is moving on. The 32-year-old had just six months to run on his contract and was left out of the team’s plans for the Clausura 2024. He will start the new tournament with Pumas UNAM but just a few days before he is due to be presented by the Auriazules, the naturalized Mexican bid farewell to his former companions in the Pandilla.

According to TUDN, Funes Mori, who starred for Mexico at the Qatar World Cup, made his to the Barrial training facilities on Friday to personally say goodbye and wishes his old team mates well. There were also claims that he ignored a fan who tried to give him a farewell gift.

All-time top scorer

The striker, who emerged from River Plate’s youth academy leaves Rayados on a high note - as the club’s top scorer of all-time with 160 goals in 312 appearances. Despite Funes Mori’s good figures in recent seasons (he finished 2022-23 with 18 goals), head coach Fernando Ortiz declared that the player is no longer in his plans and it would be better for him to seek a new club.

Another of the players who is also not being considered by Monterrey is Joao Rojas, who jokingly assured that he is wanted by Liverpool and Manchester City... It is expected that in the coming days the fate of the South American will be known. He is reported to have offers from several South American clubs and will quit the Liga MX.
