Gabri Veiga: “Bellingham is one of the best midfielders in the world and I learn from him”
The Celta midfielder dodged questions about his future, although he did praise Real Madrid’s recent signing.
Gabri Veiga, Celta Vigo midfielder recently called up the Spanish Under-21 international squad, deflected away questions about his future, preferring to focus his energy on the European Under-21 that starts on June 21. The midfielder is in demand: he has a release clause of €40 million which has, given his amazing season, caused several teams from the European elite to become interested in him.
“Right now I’m not thinking about my future and I want to live in the present, which is the national team and a very nice challenge like the European Championship. Hopefully my future will involve being in the European Championship, because there is still the final list to come and then winning it”, he commented at a recent press conference.
Veiga under no pressure
“I am here with the national team focused on having a very nice time and I want to live in the present; we’ll see what happens in the future. Now I want to represent my country, which is one of the most beautiful things in football,” he insisted.
Veiga arrives at the tournament as one of the team leaders in the camp, although he ruled out feeling pressure regarding the role: “I don’t feel under any pressure because we are all very good players. In the end, what comes first here is the team and helping with whatever happens. We are better collectively and we are going for the win”, he said.
Bellingham praised by Madrid target
Avoiding any of the questions about his future, the 21-year-old footballer, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, acknowledged that he is not used to speaking in public while humorously commenting that ”I think I’m doing it well”, at the insistence of questions about the interest of various clubs in acquiring his services.
On the other hand, Gabri Veiga did not want to compare Jude Bellingham’s price with his own and thanked Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti for the praise he gave him. “Each player is worth what each team pays. Bellingham is one of the best midfielders in the world and I learn a lot from him,” Veiga said. “If you know how to manage it in a mature way, all the praise is well received, especially if it comes from a great coach like Carlo Ancelotti.”
Gabri Veiga comments on breakthrough season
Gabri Veiga commented on the process in which he changed agents; he is now represented by Pini Zahavi. “Yes, it is true that everything has been a bit of a mess, but I made the decision to change agents and I have decided on the one that is the best. It’s something that some footballers have to go through and it’s something that has helped me mature a lot,” he replied.
In addition, the Celta midfielder pondered his season at Celta Vigo, who narrowly avoided relegation. “It’s been a spectacular season and there were moments when I had to stop to think and take in everything that was happening. Everything I did was a dream to do it in the club of my life”, he said.
