Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez has not been called up to the Mexico national team since September 2019 and he wants to be included in the final roster that will participate in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. One of the reasons that the Los Angeles Galaxy striker has been vetoed from El Tri is because he was involved in organizing a party with other players after Mexico defeated the United States in 2019 in New Jersey.

Chicharito wants to return

The 33-year-old has been vocal about his desire to return to the Mexican national team but he is aware that it is up to the head coach, Gerardo Martino, to call him up. Chicharito is Mexico’s all-time leading scorer and with the team struggling to find the back of the net in recent games, he could be the solution to the problem.

It’s true what Javier said, we had a talk and we will have another one. I have meetings with players and that doesn’t mean that they will receive a call up,” Martino said on Saturday as he looked ahead to the game against Nigeria that evening. “We can’t close the door to anyone, especially if they are in a good moment, and it is good to talk to players like Chicharito.”

So it is not clear if Hernández will receive a call up in the near future despite his intentions to play for the Mexico national team, because Martino believes Raúl Jiménez can end his scoring drought. “Raúl is our starting striker and we have to help him,” added the coach.
