Germany appoint Julian Nagelsmann on short-term deal: Will he manage at Euro 2024?
Nagelsmann’s first game in charge of Germany will be against the USA on October 14 in Hartford before his side take on Mexico in another friendly in Philidelphia a few days later.
Julian Nagelsmann has been appointed as the new Germany men’s national team head coach.
The former Bayern Munich boss replaces the recently sacked Hansi Flick and will lead the team until after next summer’s European Championship in Germany.
“We have a European Championship in our own country,” Nagelsmann said at his official unveiling on Friday.
“That’s something special, something that happens every few decades. I have a great desire to take on this challenge. We will be a close-knit group next year.”
European clubs interested in Nagelsmann
In recent months, Nagelsmann, who has also coached RB Leipzig in his young managerial career, had been linked with Chelsea, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain.
“Julian Nagelsmann was our preferred candidate as national coach when the search began,” German FA (DFB) sporting director Rudi Voller said.
“He is not only an absolute football expert, but has already proven in all his positions - at a very young age for a head coach - that he can motivate and inspire a team and the entire environment.
“His passion for football is noticeable and contagious - just like with his two assistant coaches Benjamin Gluck and Sandro Wagner, whose great energy I was recently able to experience myself.
“Julian Nagelsmann will be with his qualities and his personality will play a crucial role in ensuring that we will all experience a great European Championship in our own country in the summer.”
