Germany vs Paraguay live online: updates, score, goals and highlights | 2026 World Cup round of 32
Four time World Cup winners Germany are on to the knockout rounds for the first time since 2014, taking on Paraguay in the round of 32 from New England.
Paraguay sat back and defended with valor during the first 45 minutes. It was really the only thing they could do, but before that they had the opening chance of the day. Junior Alonso had the first goal scoring chance in the first minute and just barely nicked this scissor kick on the back post of Neuer's goal.

WE ARE AT THE HALFTIME BREAK FROM BOSTON!!!!
PARAGUAY IS HALFWAY TO A MIRACLE.
Nmecha slaps the ball across the face of goal, and it was defelectred by a defender just wide of the target and out for a corner kick.

FIVE MINUTES OF STOPPAGE TIME!
Almiron started the action from the right side, and played Galarza to the end line. The ball back was perfect and sliced through defense right on to the head of Enciso!
GOOOOAAAALLLLL!!!!!
IT'S ENCISO WITH A HEADER INTO THE BACK OF THE NET FROM A BALL IN FROM GALARZA!!!
PARAGUAY WITH THEIR FIRST GOAL IN THE KNOCK OUT STAGES OF THE WORLD CUP!!
Almiron's corner was too tight to Neuer and was able to punch it out.
Corner kick coming for Paraguay and this is going to be one of their only chances of the first half.
If you are Paraguay, you couldn't be happier with how things are going. For Germany something has to change, and I think it's Wirtz moving from the left side to a more central role.
Galazra tripped up on the counter by Pavlovic and he does just stay down a little longer than expected. I really can't blame them, but it is against the rules in this edition of the World Cup. So far no punishment has been handed out, but they are walking a fine line.
As of just a second ago the passing completion numbers were Germany: 235, Paraguay: 39.
Havertz is having a real tough time getting any space between the two center backs.
What a ball it was from the back for Sane from Kimmich and he got behind the defense popped it up in the air and tried to slide it Undav but the flag went up.
What has Nagelsman told his team to try and open up this Paraguay back line in the break. They have sunk into the low block and are intent not to allow any space through. It's a dangerous game, but one that Paraguay will be comfortable with until the first goal goes in.
We are back in play from New England.
WE ARE AT THE HYDRATION BREAK FROM BOSTON!!!
Not much happening for Germany, but Paraguay are barely stringing together two, three or four passes.
This game is being slowed down to a lull right now and the Germany fans are getting a little restless with nothing happening in the attacking third.
Germany with a spell of possession which has given Paraguay a chance to drop back and put all eleven bodies behind the ball.
Kimmich to the back post on the corner and Tah was there but Pavlovic was caught hugging the keeper Gill as the ball came through.
Caceres went down on the near touchline and looked to either draw a yellow card out of the refs pocket or slow down the game. Nothing came for Caceres, and with the new laws he's going to have to be careful wasting time.
Paraguay are going to try to play this game as tight as they can in the back. Their back 4 is going to turn into a back 6 or 7 when Germany have the ball. We saw Japan create plenty of problems for Brazil earlier and Paraguay are trying to do so too.
Paraguay almost pulled off a shock early goal with Alonso trying to connect on a scissor kick on the back post.

Wirtz sprays it over the target after the corner was cleared away but only to the top of the area.
Canale gets the last touch out for a corner kick after a slicing ball from Pavlovic. Havertz was there in case that ball did just get through.
Havertz makes a run to the end line and lays it off for Undav who chipped it to the back post but just missed the target a bit high and a bit wide. That's an attempt and a man that is full of confidence. Most players don't try that if they aren't believing in everything they are doing.
Gustavo back to his feet and jogs off the pitch. Maybe just a little scare but he is going to have to stay out of the game for a moment.
Gomez, the captain is down, and not getting up. He took a shot to the knee and remember Alderete isn't around today either.
That corner to the back post fell to Alonso who chested it and tried to scissor kick it on goal but whiffed.
Enciso quickly up the park and takes a shot from a tight angle that was tipped and out for an early corner 20 seconds in to this game.
WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM BOSTON STADIUM!!!
The players are out of the tunnel and the anthems are being played from New England.
This is a tall task for Paraguay. Their coach will have them believing in themselves, but they know they are going up against a giant of the game.

Gabriel Martinelli's stoppage time saw Brazil through in another dramatic Round of 32 match that ended in stoppage time. It's been a wild ride so far. Two matches, two late winners. What else is in store for the rest of the round?

Almiron back after suspension
For the first time in history we saw a player sent off after the newly implemented rule that prohibits players from covering their mouths during confrontations during a match. Miguel Almiron was the first to be shown a red card after covering his mouth in the first half of the game against Türkiye. The ref went to the VAR review and ruled that it was a violation of the new rule and showed him a red card. After serving a one match suspension, Almiron is back with Paraguay for today's match.

Taking a look at the newly updated FIFA Rankings we see Germany falling out of the top 10 after their loss to Ecuador. They started the tournament as the 10th ranked team and they come into today ranked 12th behind Belgium in 10th and Colombia in 11th. Argentina are back in 1st after a their win over Jordan. France overtook the top spot for a moment following their win over Norway, but Messi made sure the Albiceleste came into the round of 32 back in first. Spain is third, England is fourth, and Brazil is fifth.
Last game: Germany
Germany had the group solidified heading into their final match of the group stages. That didn't stop them from fielding their top XI against an Ecuador side that was in dire straits. Leroy Sane took needed just two minutes to get on the board and give the Germans an early 1-0 lead, but Ecuador would battle back. In the 9th minute Nilson Angulo leveled the score at 1-1. It wouldn’t be until late in the 2nd half with Ecuador needing three points that Gonzalo Plata would put his side ahead and down Germany in one of the more dramatic finishes of the group stages.
