Gilberto Mora, the Mexican star eyeing World Cup history
The Xolos player will have the opportunity to compete in three World Cups in a single year.

Gilberto Mora continues to make waves in Mexican soccer. After a standout summer with the national team, the young star is now impressing with Club Tijuana and edging closer to an extraordinary milestone: playing in three World Cups in the span of a single year.
Mora has been labeled Mexico’s newest diamond in the rough. He made his first-division debut at just 15. He lifted the Gold Cup with El Tri at 16, and now, at 17, he’s chasing the ultimate dream: representing Mexico on the world stage.

Three World Cups in one year
The first opportunity could come at the U-20 World Cup in Chile. Mexico has been drawn into Group C alongside Brazil, Morocco and Spain. It’s a challenging group, but one where Mexico can thrive. The tournament runs from September 27 to October 20.
Just weeks later, Mora could feature again, this time at the U-17 World Cup in Qatar. He turns 17 in October, making him eligible for a tournament where Mexico boasts a proud history, having won two titles. They’ll begin in Group F against Ivory Coast, South Korea, and Switzerland. The competition takes place from November 3 to 27.
But Mora’s biggest dream is the 2026 World Cup. After his Gold Cup performances, veteran coach Javier Aguirre has reportedly taken notice. If Mora can maintain his level, he could have a genuine chance to make the senior squad for a home World Cup at just 17 years old. It’s an opportunity that would mark him as one of the brightest young talents in Mexican soccer history.
