Gio Reyna came off the bench to score a 93rd-minute winner as Borussia Dortmund beat Mainz in the Bundesliga on Wednesday night.

Mainz took the lead after just two minutes when Jae-sung Lee put the home side in front. Julian Ryerson equalised for Dortmund two minutes later but struggled to break down the home side.

US international Reyna was introduced in the 62nd minute when he replaced Emre Can and he would go on to impact the game.

Reyna scores injury-time winner

Reyna stepped up three minutes into injury time to hand Dortmund all three points at the death when he scored from close range at the back post following a flick-on from a Julian Brandt corner on the right. He has now scored back-to-back league winners for his club.

Mainz will be disappointed with the outcome of the match as Dortmund were far from their best and have their young American attacker to thank for showing his ability to come up with another winner.

Dortmund into Champions League places

The win moves Dortmund into fourth place in the Bundesliga table with 31 points from their 17 games played.

On Sunday, Reyna worked his magic when he scored the winner in a seven-goal thriller between Dortmund and Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

The 20-year-old replaced Karim Adeyemi after 70 minutes and popped up with a stunning winner just eight minutes later when he volleyed home from the edge of the box to seal the victory.

With his recent form, Reyna is moving closer to claiming a spot in Edin Terzić's starting eleven.
