Giorgio Chiellini has decided to leave Europe’s top tier and continue playing career in Major League Soccer. According to journalist Fabricio Romano, the Italian defender has reached a full agreement with Los Angeles FC and representatives of both sides are set to meet in London to sign his new contract.

After the final meeting, Chiellini will fly to Los Angeles in the coming weeks and join LAFC for the second part of the 2022 regular season. The MLS side has a designated spot open but it is unlikely that they will use it on the 2006 FIFA World Cup winner with Italy. This means that Giorgio Chiellini will be earning up to $1.9 million during his time in Los Angeles.

When could Chiellini make his MLS debut?

The 37-year-old defender played his last game with the Italian national team on Wednesday in the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions against Argentina at Wembley stadium. The Azzurri lost 3-0 against Argentina and Chiellini was taken out before the start of the second half.

LAFC is hopeful that Giorgio Chiellini receives his work permit upon arrival so he could be available for the 18 June match against the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field. If the 37-year-old doesn’t see minutes in that game, he could make his debut on 26 June against NY Red Bulls at the Banc of California stadium.
