In 2021, Giovani dos Santos’s chapter with Club América came to an end - and with it, effectively, his professional playing career. Once regarded as one of the world’s most promising young soccer talents after coming through FC Barcelona’s youth academy, Dos Santos was also part of the Mexican U‑17 national team that captured the 2005 FIFA U‑17 World Cup.

However, his career trajectory slowly dipped. He bounced across multiple clubs in Spain and England, later moved to MLS, and eventually closed things out in Mexico. His club résumé never truly lived up to expectations; most of his career highlights came with El Tri, including the 2012 Olympic gold medal and several CONCACAF Gold Cup titles. Once he stepped away from the pitch, his new ventures in the business world brought him significant financial success.

What does Dos Santos do now?

According to Claro Sports, Dos Santos entered the corporate arena by investing in Procura México, a company linked to the petrochemical sector of Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX). The outlet reports that the former player now earns roughly $500,000 per year from this venture, in addition to running a luxury-car buying and selling business.

Internationally, Dos Santos’s career shift has drawn its share of media attention. In the United Kingdom, The Sun once published an article on the story under the headline: “Tottenham flop, 35, becomes an OIL TYCOON”.
