Girona 0-1 Barcelona: as it happened

Girona lose to Barcelona

Girona have still never beaten Barcelona.

They had their chances, especially through Iván Martín, who shot wide late on. It was the best chance of the game for the home side but he was unable to make the most of the opportunity.

Barcelona win the derby

It's all over in Girona. Pedri was the match-winner for the away side, who are now six points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of the table.

FT: Girona 0-1 Barcelona

Barcelona move six points ahead of Real Madrid with the win.

Stuani sees his header saved by Ter Stegen and there's the whistle!

Girona can't find a way through.

It's a clear foul on Arnau. The Girona manager loses the plot and sees red, literally.

Girona manager Míchel has been sent off for protesting.

Arnau Martínez shoots straight at Ter Stegen from inside the box but he's offside.

Araújo wins the header and clears the danger.

Miguel crosses from the left. Alba heads it out for a corner.

There will be SIX minutes added on!

Can Barcelona hold on?

What a chance!

Martín is all alone in the box but somewhere fires his shot wide.

They won't get a better chance than that!

Villa shoots!

It's straight at Ter Stegen!

Barcelona are holding onto their 1-0 lead.

Fati comes off

Balde replaces Fati.

Girona changes

Alba is played in on the left and as he crosses, he is flagged for offside.

Girona work it well down the right. The ball comes in but Koundé slides and clears at the same time. Barcelona have a narrow lead and Girona are still threatening.

Stuani is at the back post waiting to head home but Araújo comes across to head away. It's a brilliant and timely interception.

Jordi Alba has pulled up with an injury now. It's been a game full of fouls and knocks. Alba is down holding his calf. He gets nutmegged and suddenly grabs his left leg.

Double change for Girona

The experienced Stuani comes in for Girona.

Pedri goes on a driving run and accidentally clashes with Yan Couto, who is down and receiving treatment.

Arnau Martínez has the ball in the back of the net for Girona but he's offside!

It's Pedri!

He scores for the third game in a row!

Alba crosses from the left. Gazzaniga spills it and it falls to Pedri, who is there to tap in and give the away side the lead.

Today's attendance

Girona go route one!

Yan Couto is clear on the right but his cross is eventually cleared by Araújo.

The ball is played to Alba on the left. He crosses into the box but it's headed away. 0-0

100 games for Pedri

... and he's only 20!

This is feeling like a proper derby now. Romeu flies into a challenge with Koundé. He goes for the ball but catches the France international.

It's a side of Gavi's game he needs to work on. He commits too many fouls, simple as.

A fired-up Gavi picks up a yellow for a lunging tackle on Arnau Martínez.

Mateu Alemany to DAZN: "Gavi and Araújo have been renewed for a long time. They are armoured with clauses of €1bn. I don't know when, but we will sign them".

It's still 0-0 in Girona if you're just joining us.

We're underway for the second half!

Girona keep Barcelona out

Girona have been quite comfortable so far. Ansu Fati had a chance but apart from that, Barcelona have rarely threatened.

Xavi then had to contend with the injury to Dembélé. It's going to be an interesting second half.

0-0 at the break

HT: Girona 0-0 Barcelona

It's all-square at the break in Girona.

Pedri and Xavi both pick up yellows for protesting. They're saying it's a handball and they might just have a point.

There will be two minutes added on.

Castellanos is the next player to get booked after elbowing Busquets mid-air.

Ansu Fati picks up a yellow for a foul on Gazzaniga. He slides in and just catches the keeper.

Pedri, as he's so good at doing, finds space between the lines. His weak effort is then saved by Girona netminder Gazzaniga.

Raphinha overhits his cross; it goes out for a goal kick. Girona are quite comfortable, as it stands.

Riquelme finds himself in an offside position as Girona build on the left.

Xavi's plan has totally changed with the injury Dembélé has picked up. Pedri will, however, offer another type of problem for Girona. Raphinha has been quiet on the right wing.

It's 0-0 if you're just joining us.

Girona - 44%

Barcelona - 56%

The away side have had more possession but have yet to break down Girona.

That injury to Dembélé is an early blow for Barcelona in the derby.

He works a yard for himself before unleashing a strike that flies over the bar.

Pedri replaces Dembélé

Barcelona are forced into a change:

OFF Dembélé

ON Pedri

It looks like Dembélé is trying to shake off a knock. Let's see how that develops. It would be terrible news for Barca with the recent form he has been in. He pulled up after a race with Arnau Martínez on the left wing.

Riquelme attempts to nutmeg De Jong but the Dutchman is having none of it and takes the ball forward.

Girona have not lost at home since October, a run of five successive matches at Montilivi in which they have picked up nine points from a possible 15.

Raphinha's corner is cleared away. It's a poor cross from the Brazilian.

Atlético Madrid loanee Riquelme has had some nice touches so far. He is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Ansu Fati robs it from Gazzaniga and it lands to Dembélé, who sees his strike from a tight angle blocked. That was very risky play by the home goalkeeper and Barca's press wins the ball back straight away but the Frenchman fails to convert.

When Barcelona have the ball, Girona are defending in a 4-3-3. So far, Barca have failed to threaten Gazzaniga in the Girona goal.

Girona have never beaten Barcelona in four LaLiga matches. Their best result was a 2-2 draw at Camp Nou in September 2019.

The two previous games at Montilivi both ended with Barça taking all three points.

It's a brilliant corner by Raphinha and lands right in the six-yard box. Girona clear it away. 0-0

Raphinha drills it in low and hard. It's cleared and goes out for a corner to the away side.

Miguel takes Raphinha down. Barcelona have a free out on the right, near the corner flag.

De Jong gets some early touches. Pedri has been rested today and is on the bench. Busquets is at the base of the Blaugrana midfield.

Xavi has been up and down his touchline in the opening five minutes. His side beat Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey in midweek.

The corner from the right is headed away by Araújo. Girona have had a bright start.

Girona win an early corner.

Girona are playing from right to left, while Barcelona, in their fourth strip, are playing from left to right.
