The group stage of the Concacaf 2023 Gold Cup kicks off next weekend with the USA set to open the action fresh from their Nations League triumph where they brushed Canada aside in a 2-0 win.

The 17th edition of the Gold Cup will run through to 16 July with games to be played in 15 stadiums across the US and Canada with the tournament preceded by the preliminary round phase.

2023 Gold Cup Preliminary round results

Less than four days before the tournament gets underway, we finally know the identities of all 16 teams following the conclusion of the preliminary round, which took place at Inter Miami’s DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

12 teams qualified based on their performances in the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League and were drawn into six one-off ties, with the winners proceeding to three finals. The teams coming out on top on those finals would take the last three spots at the tournament proper.

Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Saint Lucia, Suriname, Curaçao and Sint Maarten were all eliminated in the first preliminary round, which was played on 16 and 17 June.

On 20 June, the three finals were played back-to-back, with Guadeloupe first to qualify thanks to a 2-0 victory over Guyana. They join Canada, Guatemala and Cuba in Group D.

Martinique then defeated Puerto Rico by the same scoreline and go into Group C alongside Costa Rica, Panama and El Salvador.

However, the story of the day was provided by Saint Kitts and Nevis, who had to overcome a weather delay and a penalty shootout to get past French Guiana. They will take on the USMNT, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago in Group A in their first ever appearance in the Gold Cup.
