Gonzalo Higuaín’s career comes to an end
The former Real Madrid striker netted seven goals in the final six games of the regular season.
Gonzalo Higuaín’s stunning career has come to an end after Inter Miami’s 3-0 defeat to New York City in Round One of the 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs.
“I felt like what I had loved the most as a job had ended. It was half my life, my career, 17-and-a-half years,” Higuain said post-match.
“Images from my entire career came to my mind. What I lived, what I worked, what I experienced and I’m leaving very happy because I gave it all until today. That’s the most important thing.”
The former Real Madrid striker netted seven goals in the final six games of the regular season to help Inter Miami secure only their second ever playoff spot.
Neville: “He can be massively proud”
“We’ve had really difficult moments. He’s had real difficult moments when a lot has been questioned of him, a lot has been aimed at him and his form probably wasn’t as good as it should have been,” Miami boss Phil Neville said.
“What we said to him is he’s leaving exactly how he should be leaving in exactly the right way he should be leaving, with the goals he’s scored, the happiness in which he’s played, the way he’s embraced his team-mates and carried his team-mates. It’s exactly what we expected. He can be massively proud.”
