Good, better and best of new MLS 2023 season jerseys
With the new season just days away, there has been a flurry of new season jersey presentations as we pick out the most aesthetically pleasing.
The 28th Major League Soccer season gets underway on Saturday 25 February as Nashville SC face NYCFC.
As always, the new season means new players, new coaching staff and this season even a new broadcast deal with Apple on board as main streaming supplier. Once again, the 2023 campaign will see a new franchise joining the existing teams as St Louis City SC join recent newcomers in Charlotte FC who become the 28th side to make up the league after Austin FC joined in 2021.
As the countdown begins to the 2023 campaign, this week has seen plenty of activity as the teams unveil their new season jerseys for the season ahead with some really eye catching shirts being released via Adidas who are the sole supplier to all MLS teams.
After a painstaking process of filtering through the latest releases, we give you the AS USA Top 5 x MLS 2023 jerseys.
1) Portland Timbers (home)
The Oregon based club’s first-ever plaid (tartan) jersey features the iconic green with a gold trim detailing at the sleeve cuffs and collar. On the inside of the collar, a two-person crosscut saw—a symbol of teamwork—embraces the Timbers name.
“Our new primary kit celebrates what this club means to this city, and what this city means to our club,” said Heather Davis, CEO of the Timbers.
The kit will make its debut in the Timbers’ 2023 season opener against Sporting Kansas City at Providence Park on 25 February.
2) Minnesota United FC (away)
Maintaining their link with the environment, the Loons present the 2023 “Northern Lights Kit’ which showcases the colour pallet of the Northern Lights.
The colourway is also designed to mirror the outer façade of Allianz Field, and the way it lights the night sky.
Sales of the shirt for the will see the club donating a portion of every authentic jersey sold in the month of February to the Save the Boundary Waters organization.
3) Inter Miami (away)
The new Inter Miami CF new away jersey for the 2023 and 2024 MLS campaigns is called ‘La Noche Kit’ (The night) and as are all the MLS jerseys, manufactured by Adidas.
The third away kit in the club’s history with a smart pink and black combo is inspired by the energy and excitement of the city of Miami at night. La Noche features an embossed wave pattern to portray the energy of what happens on and off the field after dusk in the Florida city.
“Working with Adidas and MLS, we have created a striking jersey that captures the energy and excitement of our fans and the City of Miami,” said Inter Miami CF SVP of Brand and Marketing, Mike Ridley.
4) DC United (away)
The new D.C. United away kit for the 2023/24 Major League Soccer seasons is called the The Cherry Blossom kit.
The shirt is inspired by the beauty of the cherry blossom trees, which were gifted to the United States from Japan as a sign of friendship and unity. The new D.C. United away kit pays tribute to one of the city’s most recognizable – and natural – landmarks in the cherry blossom trees in their truest form as a patterned design of branches across the front of the shirt.
“The club [D.C. United] advised about how important the cherry blossom trees are for Washington, the whole story around them, and their uniqueness” said the adidas global design.
5) Seattle Sounders (away)
To pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of his untimely death and his final world-renowned film, Enter the Dragon, the Washington based club attempt to celebrate the life and legacy of Bruce Lee with a new away kit bearing the actor’s name.
Despite being born in San Francisco, Lee lived his formative years in Seattle, teaching students from varied backgrounds and diverse cultures.
The Sounders maintain that: ‘Bruce embodied the power of action. He viewed action to breathe life into his philosophies and preached the importance of achieving one’s goals’.
