Griezmann to make way for Cristiano?

According to reports in England, Atlético Madrid may be looking for a way out for Griezmann to make room for Cristiano.

Atlético Madrid has been in a state of pandemonium ever since rumours linking Cristiano Ronaldo to a move to the Metropolitano started to surface. English newspaper The Times claims that Atlético Madrid are considering putting Antoine Griezmann on the market in a bid to bring the Portuguese star back to the capital. Atlético would need to make room in the wages bill as well as the team’s attack to be able to make Cristiano’s arrival a reality. Diego Simeone already has Correa, Cunha, João Félix and Griezmann - four forwards for two positions. The only way to accommodate Cristiano would be by letting Griezmann go.

No outlet for Griezmann at PSG

The Times add that Griezmann has already been offered to PSG but the Ligue 1 champions were not interested. Hugo Ekitike’s recent arrival from Reims plus an already overbooked attack means Griezmann’s chances of ending up at Parc des Princes are practically zero. The French forward’s situation is curious. Earlier this summer, Atleti activated the second year of his loan deal from Barcelona. So to sell him, Atleti would first have to exercise their purchase option and pay Barcelona the corresponding 40 million euros.

At the moment, that option looks extremely unlikely. It would take something out of the ordinary for Atlético to dispense with Griezmann - even to get Cristiano Ronaldo. However, as the days go by, and considering the available choices, it seems that Atlético could be the Manchester United forward’s most realistic option.
