Guillermo Ochoa draws interest from two Liga MX clubs as World Cup countdown looms

Guillermo Ochoa remains without a club. Negotiations for a move to Spain’s second-division side Burgos fell through, leaving the Mexican goalkeeper exploring options ahead of his bid to play in a sixth World Cup.

Despite interest from European clubs, none of the offers have fully appealed to him. Ochoa wants to compete at the highest level to remain on coach Javier Aguirre’s radar for national team call-ups and official matches.

Querétaro shows interest

According to Fox Sports Mexico, Ochoa has an offer on the table from Liga MX side Querétaro. The deal is still under negotiation, and Ochoa’s representatives are evaluating all available options within Mexican soccer.

“Guillermo Ochoa, the Mexican goalkeeper with a long European career, is in talks with the Gallos Blancos. They are analyzing and exploring ways for him to join the team for the remainder of the season and the next semester. For players heading to the World Cup, including Memo, the playoffs in April and May will be without national team players. Ochoa’s representatives confirm there is another Mexican club showing interest,” reported journalist Gustavo Mendoza.

When does the Liga MX transfer window close?

Liga MX teams have until September 12 to complete signings, leaving time for Ochoa to secure a contract before returning to the field.

With the European transfer window closed, a move back to Mexico is likely Ochoa’s final option to get regular playing time and prepare for the 2026 World Cup.
