Guillermo Ochoa, the goalkeeper with the most saves in the top European leagues
Since his arrival at Salernitana, the Mexican has stood out in Europe for his good performances.
Guillermo Ochoa smiles after scoring his first win of the year in Serie A. Salernitana beat Lecce 2-1 in a key result in their fight to stay out of relegation trouble. Once again, Ochoa gave people something to talk about: after his performance last Friday, the Mexican became the goalkeeper with the most saves so far this year in the top European leagues.
Throughout his career, Ochoa has been known for being a shot-stopping goalkeeper. His reflexes in between the posts have led him to be considered one of the best goalkeepers in the Mexican National Team. At 37 years of age, he has not lost his talent and on his return to Europe he once again stood out to those watching from the stands.
According to data from Sofascore, since Guillermo Ochoa arrived at Salernitana this month, ‘Memo’ is the goalkeeper with the most saves in 2023 of all goalkeepers in the top five leagues in Europe (LaLiga, Premier League, Ligue 1, Serie A and Bundesliga). Ochoa has recorded 26 saves in the five games he has played so far in 2023 and thus he leads the ranking, ahead of Fulham’s Leno.
‘Memo’ returned to Europe after not renewing with América and found a place with Salernitana who were looking for a goalkeeper after Luigi Sepe’s injury. Since then, Ochoa has played five games in which he has conceded 14 goals in these matches where he has a record of three losses, one tie and one loss.
When will Guillermo Ochoa play again with Salernitana?
Ochoa and his teammates will have more than a week to prepare for their next match in Serie A, as they do not play until Tuesday, February 7, when they host Juventus in match day 21. Salernitana are in fourteenth place with 21 points; Juventus, after their points deduction, are in 11th.
