Guillermo Ochoa welcomes Jimmy Lozano: “We don’t want to leave empty-handed”
The Mexican goalkeeper was positive about the arrival of Jimmy Lozano and looked ahead to the Gold Cup.
The Mexican National Team is experiencing something of a crisis: the heavy defeat suffered against the United States in the Nations League led to the dismissal of Diego Cocca less than one week before the start of the Gold Cup. However, it seems that the players have welcomed in the new manager with open arms.
One of the leaders of El Tri, Guillermo Ochoa, took to the microphone to welcome Lozano, who is immediately tasked with winning the Gold Cup after an almost endless series of failures that have surrounded the Mexican National Team for almost two years. Fans finally had enough and boycotted the game against Panama in the third-place playoff of the Nations League.
“On behalf of my teammates and staff, I welcome [Lozano] to what has always been your home, as a player and as a coach. We know how you work, how you do it on and off the pitch, we know what you are capable of doing. You find yourself with a group of players and staff who want things to turn out well, who are hungry and eager. We are hard-working and successful, and we are where we are for a reason, the journey of each person is no coincidence,” said Ochoa.
‘We want to bring joy to the people’ says Ochoa
It should be remembered that Ochoa and Lozano have a very strong relationship after they won bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games; the young coach will now work with 10 of those players selected for the Olympics. For this reason, Juan Carlos Rodríguez, commissioner of the FMF, put the fate of El Tri in Lozano’s hands to take the team through a summer in which ‘Memo’ Ochoa said he wants success.
“We want to bring joy to the people, we have a great desire to improve things for Mexico and prepare ourselves in the best way. Of course, this summer, we don’t want to leave empty-handed, we know that the National Team requires a lot of effort; we want to represent our country,” he said.
Mexico begin their Gold Cup campaign on June 26 vs Panama.
