Haaland and Lewandowski top major European league scoring charts
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski are the current leading marksmen in the top 5 European leagues
The second international break of the 2024-25 season is here leading to a brief hiatus in domestic leagues as the top players head off on international duty.
Across the continent, there are few surprises in terms of sides topping tables with Barça leading LaLiga, Liverpool top the Premier League table and Napoli are out in front in Italy. Bayern are in control in the Bundesliga with Monaco leading Ligue 1 a minor surprise. In terms of the leading goalscorers, two players lead the pack with Haaland and Lewandowski both having bagged ten goals in the domestic season to date.
Manchester City’s Norwegian striker and FC Barcelona’s Polish forward both boast 10 goals in the Premier League and LaLiga EA Sports respectively, with the Norwegian’s achievement even that bit more impressive given that in England they have only played seven games with nine matchdays having passed in LaLiga. Both players also hold a four-goal advantage over their closest pursuers: Bryan Mbeumo and Cole Palmer trail the City forward while Ayoze Pérez has bagged six goals for Villarreal.
Third in the ranking which takes in Europe’s top five leagues is Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush with his eight goals instrumental in propelling Frankfurt to their current position of third in the Bundesliga. His closest rivals are Ermedin Demirovic (Stuttgart), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) and Jonathan Burkardt (Mainz 05), all of whom have five goals.
In Serie A, there is a tie at the top, with Inter’s Marcus Thuram and Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui both on seven goals each; and they lead the chasing pack of Christian Pulisic and Dušan Vlahović (5). In Ligue 1, the top scorer so far is PSG’s Bradley Barcola with six goals with Jonathan David (Lille) and OM’s Mason Greenwood (5) are close behind.
Gyökeres rules in Portugal
The top scorer however in European football at present is Viktor Gyökeres, with the Swede having found the next 11 times in the Primeira Liga with a total of 11 goals. The striker has almost twice as many goals as his closest pursuer Wenderson Galeno (FC Porto on 6) and has been a key figure in the Lisbon sides’ flyig start to the season with a 100% league record to date.
