Haaland sets single season scoring record for any Premier League player
The Man City striker got his side’s third goal against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Erling Haaland became the highest scoring player in the Premier League across all competitions in one season this evening, notching his 45th goal of the 2022/2023 campaign. The goal was Manchester City’s third against Bayern Munich in their Champions League quarter-final. The match ended 3-0 at the Etihad. Haaland had earlier provided a peach of a ball to Silva to score the second.
Haaland can’t stop scoring in 22/23
Haaland joined City last summer and has been on fire for the Premier League club since. He’s scored 30 goals in 27 games in the Premier League, three in the FA Cup in two appearances, one in the League Cup in two games and 11 in the Champions League, including his five in one game against Leipzig. He’s scored 34 goals in 26 games in the Champions League.
Players to cross the 40 goal barrier in one season
Andy Cole became the first Premier League player to break the 40-goal barrier across all competitions in one season, scoring 41 in 45 for Newcastle in 93/94. That mark was also reached by Harry Kane in 48 games for Spurs in 17/18.
Ronaldo hit 42 in 49 appearances for Man Utd in 07/08, while Ruud Van Nistelrooy (02/03) and Mo Salah (17/18) both managed 44 goals in 52 games for Man Utd and Liverpool respectively.
However Haaland is now the number one, sitting top of the list on 45 goals.
