Hamann fires warning to Bellingham suitors Real Madrid and Liverpool

The former Liverpool player didn’t hold back when talking about the Dortmund star, saying that he lacks discipline, and can be temperamental.

The race to sign Jude Bellingham is set to reach a climax this summer. A number of top European clubs are jostling to land the highly-rated English midfielder. None of them want to miss one of the promises of world football. The 19-year-old seems set to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, with Real Madrid and Liverpool the two clubs to have been closely linked to the player. However, not everyone is convinced that signing Jude would be a good investment.

Former Liverpool and Germany player Didi Hamann has questioned how Bellingham would fit in at a big club, and believes that the teenamger “lacks discipline”. Speaking to German television, Hamann fired a warning to Real Madrid or Liverpool, should Bellingham end up joining either of them in July.

“I’m not too sure about Bellingham, he’s an incredibly talented player who has extraordinary skills. The only thing he doesn’t have is discipline,” Hamann told Sky Germany. “If you look at the goals that Dortmund have conceded in the last few weeks and months, I can tell you, he was at fault for five or six of them.”

“If you want to go to a top club like Real Madrid or Liverpool, you have to play differently. At Dortmund you can do whatever you want. Nobody dares to say anything because they are afraid of upsetting him. I would be careful if I were Real Madrid, Liverpool or Manchester City. Of course, he is an exceptional player who is still very young, but little by little he has to incorporate discipline into his game”.

Big money operation

While Bellingham remains a priority for Real Madrid, the Spanish giants would prefer to step away if the operation goes beyond 120 million euros - a fee which they consider is more appropriate for a striker who guarantees a lot of goals. They don’t want to enter into a bidding war with Liverpool and City. Dortmund meanwhile still harbour hopes of retaining the player for one more season. The soap opera has only just begun...
