Hany Mukhtar becomes first German to win the MLS MVP award

On Tuesday the Major League Soccer announced that Nashville SC’s Hany Mukhtar won the 2022 Landon Donovan MLS MVP award.

Cristian ‘Chicho’ Arango had a breakout season with Los Angeles FC and he has been a key player for the franchise to play in their first MLS Cup final this weekend. The Colombia international scored 16 goals and provided five assists during the regular season and in the playoffs he has found the back of the net twice.

LAFC’s No. 9 won the 2022 Supporters’ Shield and the Western Conference title, but it was not enough to name him the most valuable player of the current campaign. On Tuesday Major League Soccer announced that Nashville SC’s Hany Mukhtar won the 2022 Landon Donovan MLS MVP award in a landslide with 48.03% of the votes from players, coaches and members of the media.

Mukhtar also became the first player from Nashville SC to win this award after finding the back of the net 23 times to win the Golden Boot and totaled 34 goal contributions this campaign. The German-born player tied for fifth place for the most goal contributions in a single season and Mukhtar scored or assisted on 65.4% of Nashville’s goals this year.
