Has Carlos Vela played his last home game for LAFC?
Vela’s contract with the Los Angeles outfit expires on 31 December this year and he has yet to renew.
The most important player in LAFC’s short history is Carlos Vela, who left Europe to join the Major League Soccer franchise in Los Angeles, California. After arriving in 2018 from LaLiga’s Real Sociedad, Vela could have played his last home game for the club on Saturday, December 2, as his contract with the Los Angeles outfit expires on 31 December this year and he has yet to renew.
The Western Conference final between LAFC and Houston Dynamo may have marked the end of an era for the Black & Gold, as the captain was there from the start, helping the team on and off the pitch, while winning the first league championship in the club’s history.
Vela went off in the 77th minute of the match against Dynamo and the stadium gave him a standing ovation. During the year he had lost some of the limelight due to the emergence of Denis Bouanga and in the opening minutes on Saturday, Vela hit a ball against the crossbar, scored a goal ruled out for offside and came close on another occasion, but it was not to be.
What’s next for Vela and LAFC?
What is likely to be ‘The Last Dance’ for the striker who spent time in the Premier League and LaLiga will be on Saturday, December 9, when LAFC have the clear objective of lifting the MLS Cup 2023 title, although Columbus Crew will be aiming to cause an upset.
