The Houston Dynamo suffered a 6-2 defeat against the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS on Thursday, a result that deeply impacted the North American team’s locker room. Héctor Herrera, the team’s Mexican midfielder, believes they need to quickly turn the page and focus on their upcoming important game against St. Louis City over the weekend.
Dynamo focus ahead, not to suffer
“We have little time to mourn and we must reflect carefully, each one in their own mind, and stay united. When you win, everything is great and we all want to celebrate, but when you lose, you have to face it together and not seek blame. Today is a good opportunity to come together more than ever, do things well, and forget about this match without discarding the good we have achieved,” said Herrera after the match.
While acknowledging that the people in Houston are disappointed by the heavy defeat, which he attributes to not performing at their best, he encourages all his teammates to stay united and quickly move on from this bitter experience.
“People are feeling sad, and there is a serious atmosphere, which I believe is appropriate. It’s also true that people are talking about the importance of sticking together and recognizing that today we weren’t the team we used to be. We lost the game due to negligence and the circumstances of the match. We were not performing at our usual level, lacking intensity, and it was evident on the pitch.”
Currently, the Houston Dynamo sits in 9th position in the table, occupying the final place that qualifies for the playoffs. However, it is crucial for them to improve their position and secure qualification.
