The transfer window for players who are free agents in Major League Soccer closes on 13 September and Los Angeles FC surprised everyone by reinforcing the team ahead of the deadline. The Black & Gold posted a video on X on Monday night, along with a cryptic message in Portuguese: Das praias do Rio de Janeiro para as praias de Los Angeles - ‘From the beaches of Rio de Janeiro to the beaches of Los Angeles’

Could a Brazilian player be joining the franchise for the remainder of the campaign? It appears so. And AS USA Latino can reveal who it is.

LAFC’s new full-back

Left-back Henrique Silva will join Los Angeles FC for the final stretch of the MLS regular season. The 30-year-old Brazilian will join as a free agent after failing to reach an agreement on a contract extension with Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyon - the club where he has spent the last three seasons.

Henrique joined the French club in July 2021 from Vasco de Gama after having come through the ranks at the Brazilian club.

On the bench in Lyon

During his three years in France, the defender made a total of 36 appearances in Ligue 1, registering one goal and two assists. He also made five appearances in the Coupe de France and four in the Europa League.

He was used mostly as a sub under all of the coaches he worked for (Peter Bosz, Laurent Blanc, Fabio Grosso and Pierre Sage), and was most active in his first season when he made 18 league appearance - 12 of them in the starting XI. His last game for Lyon was in the 0-1 win against Clermont Foot in May.

He made his debut with Vasco da Gama in 2013, and made a total of 177 appearances in all competitions.

He will now continue his career in Major League Soccer, where he will fight for a place in the side with Ryan Hollingshead and Omar Campos. AS USA Latino was unable to find out any details about the length of his contract with LAFC but it is most likely that the deal will be until the conclusion of the 2026 season.
