América’s triumph against Atlético San Luis in the 2023 Clausura quarter final came at a price. Henry Martín is a doubt for Sunday’s return leg after suffering a blow to the head at the Alfonso Lastras in last night’s 3-1 win.

In his post-match press conference, coach Fernando Ortíz gave an update on the Mexican striker’s situation: “Henry took a blow to the head and felt dizzy. We immediately made the change, and took him off but we’ll have to see how he is in the coming days”.

“I am the kind of coach that will look back over every second of the game. I will take a look and see if it’s possible to rotate the team. I take my time, I will analyze the situation, then make the best decision for the club and for the team,” the Azulcrema coach added.

Overnight stay in hospital

According to reports from ESPN, Martín was taken to a hospital for immediate evaluation and to rule out any serious issues. At the moment, América have only issued a brief medical report on social media. The club confirmed that the player had suffered a blow to the right side of his face, close to the temporomandibular joint and his progress was being monitored.

If Martín is declared unfit to play on Sunday, Jonathan Rodríguez is expected to fill in as centre-forward with Leo Suárez playing alongside him out on the wing. If Alejandro Zendejas is able to return, he would also be given some playing time at the Azteca.
